4:30 pm on board the SS Meteor
Optional Tours Included with Evening and Combination Tickets
· Engines, Pumps, Boilers and More with Roger Pellett as your guide. The Meteor’s machinery plant is one of the two oldest, intact marine steam power plants on the Great Lakes.
· Structural Modifications with Jim Sharrow as your guide. The Meteor still has elements of her original patented features (if you know where to look), plus evidence of her numerous refittings prompted by changes in technology, profitability and products.
· A Day in the Life of a Great Lakes Merchant Marine with Fred Cummings as your guide. Hear the story of a typical merchant marine’s life from an experienced Great Lakes sailor. A tour of the pilot house will reveal the navigation tools available in the 1960’s, toward the end of the Meteor’s and Fred’s careers on the Inland Sea.
Tours are limited to 15 per group and will be filled on a first- come, first-served basis.
